The Rusty Gears
About the Gears
Four veterans of the Denver music scene, The Rusty Gears brings an irresistible mix of acoustic roots music to our stage. Expect everything from Bill Monroe to Jimi Hendrix, Gillian Welch to the Rolling Stones, plus a wealth of traditional and original songs — performed with the kind of easy, lived-in musicianship that only comes from decades on the road. With four vocalists and lead instruments including mandolin, fiddle, and harmonica, this is a band with serious range. Broomfield's Ernie Johnson has been a fixture of the Front Range music scene for over 50 years, fronting bands including Mythology, Terraplane, and Crooked Cannon. John Gowdy of Arvada is a masterful mandolin player and Crooked Cannon cofounder. Arvada's Matt Gabriel is a well-known name in Colorado bluegrass, having played with Gone Before They Got There and Crooked Cannon. And Lafayette's Laima Haley rounds out the group on 5 string fiddle, bringing a soaring high harmony voice that ties the whole sound together.Come early, bring your friends, and settle in for a night of music that'll feel like home.
